Arctic Harmony – A Poem

Hi everyone!

If finally looks like winter here in upstate NY. I have a love/hate relationship with snow. It’s pretty, fun to play in, and it’s always great to have some of it on Christmas. On the other hand, it makes the roads really treacherous sometimes, even with all the snowplows and salt out. Also, it gets so cold, and I’m happiest when it’s 90 out.

When I was younger, and lived with my parents, our house was out in the country. Back roads, never got plowed, and a 20 minute drive to everything except the small town our mailing address was part of (which, when I was there, included one stop light, a gas station, a bank, and a tiny, over priced, grocery store). I went to college and got a job in the city of Rochester. It was a 45 minute drive from my parents house to there, which wasn’t bad in the summer, but it was awful in the winter. I’d wake up two hours early, so I could have an hour to get ready and an extra hour to drive. Now that I’m not making that commute, I’m about 8 minutes from my job, and everything is a 5-10 minute drive, it’s easier a lot easier.

That was long winded, onto what you clicked on this post for! I wrote this for a creative writing class in college and thought it was a good day to share it.

Enjoy 😊

Arctic Harmony

Winter paradise,
flowers wither with beauty,
in freezing delight.

Far from the struggles,
stillness that permeates the
arctic harmony.

Twilight perfection,
glistening under moonlight,
safe from truth tonight.

That’s all I have for you today. Does it snow where you live? Do you like it? Let me know. 😊

Wow! I’m not sure how many inches we got. It was a lot of lake effect snow, so I didn’t get it as bad. It’s pretty, if it would stay off the roads! 😊

I agree! Driving in snow is not fun!

I grew up in the Bay Area and Hawaii. Then I went to Alaska, “to see a winter.” Your poem is very nice. May I return the favor with a poem I wrote in the 5th grade. It got into the local paper, which was very motivating. I hope you’ll enjoy it.
    Pixie Dust

    It is clear out,
And the birds begin to chirp.
    The air is crisp,
And the stars are leaving us.
The soft dawn creeps over us
And melts the thin frost on the house tops.
The sun bursts in the open windows,
And fills the room with awakening pixie dust.

    The birds sing strongly now,
And the flowers open wide and beautiful.
The trees stretch out for a bright sunny day.
Can I regret for being here
    To see this world unfolding?

    No I can’t.
    For dawn is here,
    And the awakening has begun,
So that I may see the beauty of it.
No, I am not disappointed at being here,
For the sunlight has just struck me,
And I am filled with the pixies’ awakening dust.

    Dawn after a great sadness

My husband and I went to a comic con in Texas. They had a NASA booth, and they had a replica of a suit you could stand in go get a picture. 😊
